What is The Climate Pledge?

A pledge taken by companies across the globe committing to have net-zero carbon emission by 2040.

What is the Paris Agreement?

The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to address climate change and “to accelerate and intensify the actions and investments needed for a sustainable low carbon future.”

What is Compact by Design?

Amazon’s new ‘Compact by Design’ certification aims to reduce waste and carbon emissions through more efficient packaging and manufacturing. Through design improvements, products can become smaller and lighter, making their shipment more efficient.  Through manufacturing improvements, the certification is awarded for removing excess emissions and water from products

Shout out goes to Amazon for kicking off their Climate Pledge Friendly program in support of The Climate Pledge. Climate Pledge Friendly enables Amazon customers to easily discover and purchase sustainable products.

Through a partnership with 18 trusted third-party certifications and the creation of their own certification, Compact by Design, Amazon will highlight products that meet sustainability standards and help preserve our planet. These certification organizations were selected from among hundreds of external sustainability certifications and evaluated by their capability to only certify products that have demonstrated tangible sustainability benefits.

They include, but aren’t limited to, Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, Bluesign Technologies, Textile Exchange, Green Seal and Fair Trade.

Products certified by these certification organizations or Compact by Design are labeled “Client Pledge Friendly” within shopping results, have sustainable certification information listed on their product page and are featured in a dedicated section of the website. With over 25,000 products, including beauty, grocery and fashion, labeled as Climate Pledge Friendly, consumers can filter for sustainable product choices and be sure they are helping to reduce our impact on the environment in all aspects of their lives.

“Climate Pledge Friendly is a simple way for customers to discover more sustainable products that help preserve the natural world,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO. “With 18 external certification programs and our own Compact by Design certification, we’re incentivizing selling partners to create sustainable products that help protect the planet for future generations.”

Way to go Amazon!
