Saluting Innovation at SpaceX for developing a network of satellites to provide low-cost, high-speed Internet access. Started by Elon Musk, the Space Exploration Technologies Corp, or SpaceX, also designed, manufactured, and launched Falcon, a reusable rocket with the precision landing of a helicopter. It has successfully resupplied the International Space Station three times and has launched five satellites into space. Falcon is now a NASA approved “space taxi” that hopes to finally “revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets.”
Until then, SpaceX is considering the launch of 700 micro-satellites into space to deliver fast Internet service to the masses. 27% of U.S. households do not have a broadband connection and the Falcon technology aims to bridge this gap with “unfettered certainly and at very low cost.” We salute SpaceX for building the world’s first reusable rocket with the ability to tap into the unrivaled potential of outer space.
